Introduction

Background

The Fair Access Policy Roadmap aims to develop a statewide foundation to improve the access to, and use of, community sports infrastructure for women and girls. All Victorian councils need to have gender equitable access and use policies in place to be considered eligible to receive infrastructure funding. These policies will ensure that people of all genders can fully participate in and enjoy the benefits of community sport, with fair opportunity and access to their local facilities.

In response to this, Council has updated a number of policies, processes and programs to support the implementation of Fair Access in Moonee Valley and ensure that people of all genders have equitable access to and use of facilities, and opportunities to participate in sport and recreation.

What does this mean for your club?

Sport is an important part of our lives in Moonee Valley and everyone has the right to fully participate and reach their full potential.

Creating welcoming and inclusive sporting opportunities for our community requires commitment from everyone in the community sport sector. Our local clubs are central to this, and play a vital role in ensuring that everyone has access to opportunities to participate and be involved.

We will be working with clubs in Moonee Valley over coming years to ensure this can happen, providing support and guidance along the way.

Introducing the Fair Access in Sport Network

The formation of the Fair Access in Sport Network is a collaboration between Council, cohealth and Moonee Valley based sport and recreation clubs which aims to assist your club in becoming a welcoming, safe and inclusive space for all.

Through engagement and participation in this network you should expect to receive:

  • access to information
  • networking opportunities
  • education in a range of topics
  • conversation and resources
  • support to understand what actions your club can take

The program will include an in person introductory session in September 2024 where we will work with participants to understand the needs of the group.

Sessions will then be either online or in person, held approximately every 6-8 weeks.

It's easy to get involved

We understand that clubs rely on the time and energy of many dedicated volunteers. Whilst involvement in the program is voluntary, we do ask for commitment from participants to be actively engaged in the network to ensure your club can fully benefit from your time and effort.

We encourage clubs to limit their expressions of interest to two participants per club. This will ensure there is capacity for broad participation across the Moonee Valley sporting club community. You only need to fill out one form for all participants from your club.

Submit your expression of interest today and be part of a network of clubs creating fair and equitable opportunities for participation in Moonee Valley.

Please ensure you include all requested information in your expression of interest.

Thank you for registering your interest to join the Fair Access in Sport Network. Once you have submitted your form, you should expect to hear from us within 4 weeks with information about the next steps.

For all enquiries please contact Lauri Filippone on 9243 8720 or Casey Hovenden on 9243 1244.
