Moonee Valley Neighbourhood Spirit Awards 2026

The Neighbourhood Spirit Awards celebrate the contributions made by residents in our communities which make Moonee Valley a better place to live.

To help us recognise good neighbours and the social connections they foster, Council are inviting you to tell us about the people who make a difference in our community.

Eligibility

People of all ages, including Moonee Valley City Council Staff can make nominations. To be eligible:

  • Individuals must live in the City of Moonee Valley
  • Groups or organisations must be based in Moonee Valley
  • Individuals must not be a direct relation to a Councillor
  • Individuals must not be a Moonee Valley City Council staff member or current/former Councillor.

How are the nominations assessed?

A Committee will be established to judge the nominations and award the Neighbourhood Spirit Awards and Citizen of the Year. 

The Committee will consist of Councillors and Previous Citizen of the Year.

Selection Process and Finalists

After assessment, selected nominees may be recognised as recipients of Neighbourhood Spirit Awards.

  • One nominee will be selected as the Moonee Valley Citizen of the Year.
  • One nominee aged between 12 – 25 years old will be selected as the Moonee Valley Young Person of the Year

Privacy

  • All nominations are strictly confidential and the information provided will be used to assist the judging process.
  • The nominator and nominee may be contacted prior to the presentation of the awards to seek permission to publish the details included within the nomination.
  • Any publicity photos will be used only with the permission of the nominee

How are award winners notified of being nominated?

Award winners will be advised in writing and will be invited to attend a celebratory awards presentation. 

Are nominators advised?

Nominators are advised of the outcome of their nomination once judging has taken place.
